This thesis engages with two strands of commentary on Jamaica Kincaid and colonialism. One centers on the legacies of colonialism, focusing particularly on the hegemony of the English language and the problem of representation that is exacerbated by the female figures of the monarchy, while the other focuses on Kincaid\u27s representation of female relationships (particularly mother-daughter relationships) alongside references and allusions to the English canon
